2022-08-21 Jupiter

My first attempt at photographing Jupiter.

I wanted to include the uncropped version, but with a 300mm lens, the planet is tiny in the frame.

Zooming in we see the over-exposed silhouette of Jupiter and its 4 most prominent moons. From the left we have Ganymede, Io, Jupiter, Europa, and Callisto laid out in an almost symmetrical order.

An exposure of 1/5s is much too high to pick out any detail as I've completely blown out the channels. My goal was simply to see if I could observe the planet, which was a success, but I will do a new attempt in the future with an exposure of around 1/125 or below to see if I can observe some of the violent details or color Jupiter has to offer.
